Tours to Ranthambore

Ranthambore safaris in one of India's best-known tiger reserves, usually added to a Golden Triangle route between Agra and Jaipur.

Why Ranthambore

Ranthambore National Park covers around 1,300 square kilometres of dry forest around a tenth-century fort, and holds one of the more visible tiger populations in India.

Safaris run morning and afternoon in open Gypsies or larger Canters. Zones and timings are allotted by the Forest Department, not by us, so bookings are made as early as possible.

Questions people ask about Ranthambore

Will we see a tiger?
Nobody can promise that. Two safaris give a reasonable chance; October to April is better than the monsoon months.
Gypsy or Canter?
A Gypsy seats six and gets closer. A Canter seats twenty and costs less. We book Gypsies unless you ask otherwise.
Can we book a private Gypsy?
Yes, at extra cost and subject to availability. Worth it for photographers.
When is the park closed?
Usually the first of July to the end of September for the monsoon. Some zones stay open — we check before quoting.
How do I get to Ranthambore?
By road it is about three to three and a half hours from Jaipur and around five hours from Agra. Trains also run to Sawai Madhopur, the station for the park.
How many nights should I stay in Ranthambore?
Two nights lets you take two or three safaris, which gives a much better chance of seeing a tiger than a single drive.
What is the best month for tiger sightings?
March to May is hot but often best, as the vegetation thins and animals gather near water. October to February is cooler and more comfortable, with good sightings too.
Can we visit Ranthambore Fort?
Yes. The tenth-century fort stands inside the park and can be visited separately from a safari, with its temples, lakes and wide views over the forest.
What should I bring on safari?
Neutral-coloured clothes, a hat, sunscreen and a scarf for the dust, plus warm layers for winter mornings. Carry the same original ID that was used to book the permit, as it is checked at the gate.
