A same day Agra tour is the most popular trip we run. Delhi to Agra is about 230 km, and since the Yamuna Expressway opened the drive takes three to three and a half hours each way. That leaves five or six hours in Agra — enough for the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and lunch without rushing, provided the day is planned properly.

A typical same day Agra itinerary

  1. 6:00–7:00 am — pickup from your hotel or the airport in Delhi, Noida or Gurgaon
  2. 10:00 am — meet your guide in Agra and enter the Taj Mahal
  3. 1:00 pm — lunch, at a five-star hotel buffet or a local restaurant
  4. 2:00 pm — Agra Fort, the Mughal emperors' red sandstone palace-fortress
  5. 3:30 pm — the Baby Taj (Itimad-ud-Daulah) or a marble inlay workshop, if time allows
  6. 4:00 pm — start back on the expressway
  7. 7:30 pm — drop-off at your Delhi hotel

If you can face an earlier start, the Taj Mahal sunrise tour leaves Delhi at 3 am and puts you at the gate as it opens. It is the better experience — fewer people, softer light — and you are back in Delhi by mid-afternoon.

By car or by train?

Private car

A private car picks you up at your door and drops you back at it. You choose when to leave, when to stop and how long to linger. It suits families, people with luggage, anyone flying in or out that day, and groups of three or more, where a car costs less per head than train tickets. See our same day Agra tour by car.

Gatimaan Express

The Gatimaan Express leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin at 8:10 am and reaches Agra Cantt in about 100 minutes. You skip the expressway, get breakfast on board, and a car and guide meet you at the station. It does not run on Fridays — which does not matter, since the Taj is closed then anyway. Read our full Gatimaan Express guide or book the Taj Mahal tour by Gatimaan Express.

How much does a same day Agra tour cost?

The price depends on the car, the group size and what is included. As a guide, our private tours with car, driver, licensed guide and monument tickets start at:

  • Same day Agra tour by car: from ₹7,900 per person
  • Taj Mahal sunrise tour: from ₹9,400 per person
  • Taj Mahal tour by Gatimaan Express: from ₹11,500 per person
  • Luxury car tour with a five-star lunch: from ₹16,500 per person

Every quote we send is fixed before you pay — tolls, parking, driver allowance and taxes included. Compare like with like: a cheap quote that leaves out monument tickets, the guide or tolls is not cheaper by the end of the day.

Five things that make the day go well

  • Never plan it for a Friday — the Taj Mahal is closed
  • Carry your passport or ID; it is checked at the gate
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that cover shoulders and knees
  • Keep the day bag small — large bags, food and tripods are not allowed inside
  • Say no to anyone who approaches you at the parking area offering tickets or 'faster entry'

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Agra from Delhi in one day?
Yes. With the Yamuna Expressway or the Gatimaan Express, a day trip comfortably covers the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort and gets you back to Delhi in the evening.
How long is the drive from Delhi to Agra?
About three to three and a half hours each way on the Yamuna Expressway, depending on where in Delhi you start.
Is a same day tour too tiring?
It is a long day — twelve to thirteen hours — but most of it is spent sitting in an air-conditioned car. If you can spare it, our 2 days Taj Mahal overnight tour is gentler.
Can the tour start from the airport?
Yes. Many guests come straight off an overnight flight. Tell us the flight number and we will be waiting at arrivals.
